Modern Persian name Farhād (فرهاد) is derived from Middle Persian Frahād (in 𐭐𐭓𐭇𐭕 prht Frahāt; in Φραάτης Phraatēs), ultimately from Old Iranian *fra-hāta- "merited, obtained".
