In recent years, considerable research has focused on the biological effect of endocrine-disrupting chemicals. Bisphenol A (BPA) has been implicated as an endocrine-disrupting chemical (EDC) due to its ability to mimic the action of endogenous estrogenic hormones.

Gestational age

In obstetrics, gestational age is a measure of the age of a pregnancy taken from the beginning of the woman's last menstrual period (LMP), or the corresponding age of the gestation as estimated by a more accurate method if available. Such methods include adding 14 days to a known duration since fertilization (as is possible in in vitro fertilization), or by obstetric ultrasonography. The popularity of using this measure of pregnancy is due to the fact that menstrual periods are usually noticed, while there is generally no convenient way to discern when fertilization or implantation occurred.

La gestation (ou, pour une femme, la grossesse) est un phénomène physiologique lié à la reproduction chez les femelles des animaux vivipares (exception faites des Syngnathidae chez qui c'est le mâle qui subit la gestation). Diabète gestationnel

Le diabète gestationnel est un état d'intolérance au glucose, quelle que soit sa sévérité, apparu au cours de la grossesse chez une femme sans diabète sucré connu antérieurement. Il peut néanmoins être révélateur d'un diabète antérieur. Le diabète se définit par une glycémie veineuse à jeun supérieure à par litre de sang (7 mmol/L), à deux reprises (hyperglycémie). Mais, ici, c'est une simple intolérance au glucose qui doit être prise en charge. Le diabète gestationnel peut exposer à des complications maternelles et fœtales potentiellement sévères.
