This lecture introduces NewbornCare, a project aiming to improve clinical monitoring for newborns using vision and spectroscopy. It covers the motivation behind the project, the limitations of current monitoring systems, the objectives of NewbornCare, the camera set-up and system specifications, skin area segmentation and tracking, heart rate estimation, respiratory rate estimation, arterial and brain tissue oxygen saturation, and the regulatory affairs status. The lecture concludes with the technical advances achieved, including camera specifications, algorithms for tracking vital signs, and the design of monitoring tools.
