This lecture covers the solid state properties of polymers, focusing on the microstructure of semi-crystalline polymers with crystalline domains surrounded by an amorphous matrix, the factors influencing polymer crystallization, the role of tacticity in polymer structure, and the characteristics of the amorphous phase including the glassy, rubbery, and fluid states. It also discusses the glass transition temperature, the transition from rubbery to fluidic states, and the mechanical properties of polymers such as stress-strain curves and toughness.
