Scaling Innovations

This lecture discusses two real-world examples of innovative projects in Malawi and South Africa that faced challenges in scaling up successfully. The first example focuses on a community-based health insurance fund in Malawi, highlighting the positive impact on reducing health fees and improving healthcare services. The second example explores the Play Pump technology in South Africa, which failed to scale up due to a lack of evidence from implementation research. By analyzing these cases, the lecture emphasizes the importance of implementation research in ensuring the successful scaling of social innovations.
