This lecture presents the Heat Reserves Project, which aims to use thermal resources in residential and office buildings to provide ancillary services for the electricity grid, ensuring a secure and efficient market operation. The project involves developing mathematical frameworks and control algorithms to steer power consumption, engaging consumers through business models, and verifying the technology in experimental platforms. Various challenges in system modeling, control, and economics are addressed through interdisciplinary collaboration. The lecture covers the project's overview, work packages, control schemes for buildings, aggregation of residential units, and analysis of consumer behavior to incentivize participation in ensuring grid security and stability.
