This lecture presented by the instructor from Unfold, the laboratory for stationary flow diagnostics, introduces a simultaneous engineering project aimed at revealing the secrets of the Godie art, a technique used in French Atlantic coast navigation. The lecture delves into the complex and fascinating fluid mechanics phenomena behind the Godie technique, drawing parallels with efficient propulsion forms found in nature, such as the bumblebee's flight. The project involves designing and testing prototypes of the Godie, including selecting motors, designing a 3D printable blade, installing sensors for performance measurement, and visualizing fluid structures around the blade using dye injection. Students are invited to join the project and contribute to various tasks.
