This lecture discusses the analysis of rate constants using the Lindemann-Christiansen theory, comparing them with collision theory and estimating them with the Hinshelwood theory. The lecture covers the isomerization of ci-but-2-ene into transbut-2-ene, examining experimental data and theoretical predictions. It also explores the energization step, collision diameters, and threshold energies for isomerization. Additionally, it delves into the water dimer's dissociation process in the gas phase, including vibrational states, photon absorption, and dissociation energies. The RRK theory is applied to estimate the lifetime of the water dimer after laser excitation.
