This lecture covers the simple procedure of loss on ignition in the laboratory, which involves drying and weighing samples at specific temperatures to determine the loss of mass due to volatile compounds. Samples are dried at 105°C overnight, cooled in a desiccator for an hour, then weighed. Subsequently, they are dried at 550°C overnight, cooled, and weighed again.
