This lecture delves into the understanding of modal practices in mobility and urban planning, highlighting that the reasons for using different transport modes go beyond travel times and prices. It explores the varied and segmented attitudes towards different transport modes, discussing three action logics: instrumental action, emotional reasons, and habits. The lecture also analyzes modal habits construction, values, and attitudes, distinguishing between individual and collective interests. Additionally, it examines the constraints faced by car users in adopting alternative modes of transport, emphasizing their rootedness in proximity.
