This lecture explores the impact of stereotypes on individuals and society, focusing on gender equality issues. It delves into the self-fulfilling prophecy of stereotypes, the difficulty of eradicating unwanted thoughts, and the behavioral effects of stereotype threats. Experimental studies are presented to illustrate how stereotypes influence hiring decisions based on age, appearance, and subtle discriminatory behaviors. The importance of role models for women and the distinction between conscious and unconscious stereotypes are also discussed, highlighting the challenges in combating discrimination.
