Doc.Talks EDAR

Abstract

Doc.Days is an event organized to be an open space for discussion of theory, methods, and approaches among EDAR researchers. Diverting from the conventional Lab format, we create a friendly environment where we could learn and enjoy our time together while getting to know each other’s research. The event has received funding from EDOC and consisted of two days in April 2023 - Monday the 17th and Monday the 24th, during which PhD Candidates from First to Fourth Year will be presenting their research in 10 minutes. The topics were open, whether fieldwork results, a table of contents, a chapter, or simply a research question. Presentations were followed by feedback and discussion with professors within and outside of EPFL. Teh Doctoral event closed with the lectures 'On Methodology' by André Patrão (Yale) and Valentin Bourdon (HRC-EPFL) recent EPFL PhD Graduates.

Candidate of Sciences
A Candidate of Sciences (кандидат наук) is the first of two doctoral level scientific degrees in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States. It is formally classified as UNESCO's ISCED level 8, "doctoral or equivalent." It may be recognized as a Doctor of Philosophy, usually in natural sciences, by scientific institutions in other countries. Former Soviet countries also have a more advanced degree, Doctor of Sciences.
Candidate (degree)
Candidate (Latin candidatus or candidata) is the name of various academic degrees, which are today mainly awarded in Scandinavia. The degree title was phased out in much of Europe through the 1999 Bologna Process, which has re-formatted academic degrees in Europe. The degrees are now, or were once, awarded in the Nordic countries, the Soviet Union, the Netherlands, and Belgium. In Scandinavia and the Nordic countries, a higher professional-level degree usually corresponds to 5–7 years of studies.
Doctor of Philosophy
A Doctor of Philosophy (PhD, Ph.D., or DPhil; Latin: philosophiae doctor or doctor philosophiae) is the most common degree at the highest academic level, awarded following a course of study and research. PhDs are awarded for programs across the whole breadth of academic fields. Because it is an earned research degree, those studying for a PhD are required to produce original research that expands the boundaries of knowledge, normally in the form of a dissertation, and defend their work before a panel of other experts in the field.
