Domestic does not even exist in Albanian language, a symthom showing how much this term has been absorbed by the word 'banesa', whose meaning is dwelling or house. Starting from this premise, the article traces a short genealogy of the history of domestic space in Albania, from the Ottoman house, the socialist block, to the contemporary urban 'pallati' (condominium or palace) and the informal house, a dom-ino type developed after the privatization of the former socialist countryside Sate property.
