MiscellaneousThe Laboratory of Elementary Architecture and Typological Studies (EAST) at EPFL focuses on research-through-building projects, particularly in the context of reuse strategies for disaffected or demolished structures. EAST has a strong emphasis on designing prototypes at a 1:1 scale, exploring typology and innovation in material, construction, form, and function. The laboratory is known for projects such as the A Neuve Twin Pavilions, the Cabanon Art Pavilion, and the Gentle Brutalism initiative, which reimagines the spatial and programmatic organization of existing architectural complexes. EAST also organizes outreach activities like the 5x3 lecture series, inviting architects from different European countries to share their practical approaches and projects.
