Institute of Architecture

The Institute of Architecture and City (IA) at EPFL is a transdisciplinary environment within the ENAC Faculty, where architects, civil engineers, and environmental engineers collaborate to find innovative ways to address societal challenges. With a focus on a transdisciplinary and transscalar approach, IA aims to explore the interconnectedness of architecture, public spaces, and infrastructure with the living environment. Emphasizing the social and ethical role of architecture, IA seeks to empower architects to act in times of uncertainty, climate emergency, and social justice issues. Through various research units and laboratories, IA conducts cutting-edge research in areas such as urban planning, sustainable technologies, and architectural history and theory.
