The Laboratory of Urbanism (LAB-U) at EPFL, founded and directed by Paola Vigano, explores the concept of the city as a renewable resource by recycling existing elements. LAB-U's research focuses on the City-Territory as a sustainable and innovative urban dimension, integrating design with theory to generate knowledge. Research fields include metropolitan agriculture, sustainable transitions for rural-urban regions, and the development paradigm of spaces of production. LAB-U also engages in teaching activities related to urban and territorial design, public space, and landscape urbanism.
