The Laboratory of Biomechanics in Orthopedics (LBO) at EPFL focuses on advancing techniques and technology for patient care in the musculoskeletal system through fundamental and applied research. The interdisciplinary team, comprising biologists, physicists, engineers, and surgeons, collaborates closely with the CHUV to translate lab results into therapeutic solutions. LBO specializes in developing innovative biomaterials for musculoskeletal applications, studying the impact of biomechanical stimuli on tissue development, and improving orthopedic implants using advanced numerical methods. The lab also explores drug delivery systems to enhance orthopedic implant success by controlling tissue differentiation. Research areas include joint biomechanics, mechanobiology, tissue engineering, and drug delivery systems.
