Julia Jacobi's Head of Photomedicine - Fundamental Biophotonic Laboratory

The Laboratory for Fundamental BioPhotonics at EPFL, led by Julia Jacobi, focuses on developing nonlinear imaging techniques to study water in various configurations. Water, a key component of the human body, is actively involved in biological processes, particularly at interfaces and in solutions. The lab investigates water-related biological processes on different length scales, using techniques such as nonlinear microscopy and label-free imaging of mammalian neurons. Research topics include water and aqueous solutions, aqueous interfaces, lipid droplets, and liposomes. The lab also explores the properties of water and aqueous solutions at molecular, nanoscopic, and macroscopic scales, studying phenomena like electrolyte interactions and the evolution of the electrical double layer with electrolyte concentration.
