The Department of Physics at EPFL is dedicated to exploring the natural phenomena from the smallest particles to the largest galaxies. Physicists are trained to possess high-level theoretical and experimental skills, enabling them to work in fundamental and applied research, engineering, service industries, and education. The curriculum includes not only fundamental physics disciplines but also teachings in humanities and social sciences to raise awareness of the ethical and environmental implications of their future professional activities. With a strong emphasis on mathematics, the program covers classical physics, quantum mechanics, and general relativity, providing students with a versatile scientific background. The department offers a Bachelor's program in French and a Master's program in English, focusing on advanced physics topics and culminating in a research project.
