The SCI SB HD, led by Prof. Hugo Dil, focuses on the influence of spin-orbit interaction on the electronic properties of materials. Their research covers topics such as topological insulators, Weyl semimetals, and Rashba effect for spintronics applications. They use SARPES to explore fundamental properties of matter and have made breakthroughs in understanding the time scale of the photoemission process. Constantly developing experimental techniques, they recently achieved efficient magnetic switching in a correlated spin glass and ultrafast modulation of Rashba coupling at room temperature in ferroelectric materials.
