Theory and Project of Domestic Space

The Theory and Project of Domestic Space (TPOD) laboratory at EPFL delves into the intricate realm of domestic space within architecture, exploring the multifaceted dimensions of houses beyond their physical structures. By critically examining the historical, political, and economic underpinnings of domestic spaces, TPOD sheds light on the complex interplay between design, societal constructs, and human inhabitation. Through a series of courses and research endeavors, TPOD investigates topics such as the relationship between poverty and architecture, the evolution of domestic welfare, and the genealogies of specific domestic elements. Additionally, TPOD engages in translating and analyzing the seminal works of renowned architectural historian Manfredo Tafuri, aiming to bridge the gap between his critiques of modern architecture and his studies on Renaissance architecture.
