The Laboratory for the Diagnosis of Institutional Ecouts (UNFoLD) at EPFL specializes in experimental measurements, analysis, and modeling of unsteady vortex-dominated flow phenomena. Their research focuses on understanding unsteady flow separation, vortex formation, and aerodynamic forces in applications such as bio-inspired propulsion and wind turbine rotor blade aerodynamics. The lab is known for its carefully designed experiments using particle image velocimetry, exploratory data analyses, and extraction of relevant time scales describing unsteady flow responses.
