Muslim worldThe terms Muslim world and Islamic world commonly refer to the Islamic community, which is also known as the Ummah. This consists of all those who adhere to the religious beliefs and laws of Islam or to societies in which Islam is practiced. MasmudaThe Masmuda (المصمودة, Berber: ⵉⵎⵙⵎⵓⴷⵏ) is a Berber tribal confederation of Morocco and one of the largest in the Maghreb, along with the Zenata and the Sanhaja. Today, the Masmuda confederacy largely corresponds to the speakers of the Shilha (Tachelhit) Berber variety, whereas other clans, such as Regraga have adopted Arabic. The Masmuda settled large parts of Morocco, and were largely sedentary and practised agriculture. The residence of the Masmuda aristocracy was Aghmat in the High Atlas mountains.
BarghawataThe Barghawatas (also Barghwata or Berghouata) were a Berber tribal confederation on the Atlantic coast of Morocco, belonging to the Masmuda confederacy. After allying with the Sufri Kharijite rebellion in Morocco against the Umayyad Caliphate, they established an independent state (AD 744-1058) in the area of Tamesna on the Atlantic coast between Safi and Salé under the leadership of Tarif al-Matghari. Some historians believe that the term Barghawata is a phonetic deformation of the term Barbati, a nickname which Tarif carried.
MaghrawaThe Maghrawa or Meghrawa (المغراويون) were a large Zenata Berber tribal confederation whose cradle and seat of power was the territory located on the Chlef in the north-western part of today's Algeria, bounded by the Ouarsenis to the south, the Mediterranean Sea to the north and Tlemcen to the west. They ruled these areas on behalf of the Umayyad Caliphate of Cordoba at the end of the 10th century and during the first half of the 11th century. The Maghrawa descend from Madghis (Medghassen).
Ali ibn YusufAli ibn Yusuf (also known as "Ali Ben Youssef") (علي بن يوسف) (born 1084 died 26 January 1143) was the 5th Almoravid emir. He reigned from 1106 to 1143. Ali ibn Yusuf was born in 1084 in Ceuta. He was the son of Yusuf ibn Tashfin, the fourth Almoravid Emir, and Zaynab an-Nafzawiyyah was his mother. Sources confused Qamar, surnamed Faid al-Husn (beauty perfection) a Christian concubine, to be his mother. However, Qamar was his slave concubine and the mother of his son Syr.
