Glarus

Glarus (ˈɡlaːrʊs; Glaris; Glaris; Glarona; Glaruna) is the capital of the canton of Glarus in Switzerland. Since 1 January 2011, the municipality Glarus incorporates the former municipalities of Ennenda, Netstal and Riedern. Glarus lies on the river Linth between the foot of the Glärnisch (part of the Schwyzer Alps) to the west and the Schilt (Glarus Alps) to the east. Very few buildings built before the fire of 1861 remain. Wood, textile, and plastics, as well as printing, are the dominant industries.

Innerthal

Innerthal is a municipality in March District in the canton of Schwyz in Switzerland. Innerthal is first mentioned in 1259 as Wegental. Until 1888 it was known as Hinterwäggithal. Innerthal has an area of . Of this area, 34.9% is used for agricultural purposes, while 34.1% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 0.4% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (30.6%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains). The municipality is located on Wägitalersee, a reservoir in the upper Wägital.

It establishes the Swiss Confederation as a federal republic of 26 cantons (states).

Canton of Uri

The canton of Uri (Kanton Uri ˈuːʁi Chantun Uri; Canton d'Uri; Canton Uri) is one of the 26 cantons of Switzerland and a founding member of the Swiss Confederation. It is located in Central Switzerland. The canton's territory covers the valley of the Reuss between the St. Gotthard Pass and Lake Lucerne. The official language of Uri is (the Swiss variety of Standard) German, but the main spoken dialect is the Alemannic Swiss German called de.

Unteriberg

Unteriberg is a village and municipality in Schwyz District in the canton of Schwyz in Switzerland. Besides the village of Unteriberg, the municipality includes the villages of Studen, Waag, Stöcken and Herti. Unteriberg is first mentioned around 1217-22 as Yberge. Until the separation, in 1884, into Unteriberg and Oberiberg the independent municipality was known simply as Iberg. Unteriberg is the hometown of noted ski racer Wendy Holdener. The municipality of Unteriberg lies in the valleys of the Sihl, Waag and Minster rivers, at the southern end of the artificial Sihlsee.

Gersau

Gersau is a municipality and district in the canton of Schwyz in Switzerland, sitting on the shores of Lake Lucerne. Gersau was for many centuries an independent micro-state in permanent alliance with the Swiss Confederation. Gersau is first mentioned in 1064 as Gersouwe. The estates of Gersau gradually came into the hands of the Habsburgs, but in 1333, under dukes Albert II and Otto IV the Merry of Austria, the jurisdiction and rights over Gersau fell into the hands of Lucerne nobility.

Battle of Morgarten

The Battle of Morgarten took place on 15 November 1315, when troops of Schwyz, supported by their allies of Uri and Unterwalden, ambushed an Austrian army under the command of Leopold I, Duke of Austria on the shores of Lake Ägeri, in the territory of Schwyz. After a brief close-quarters battle, the Austrian army was routed, with numerous slain or drowned. The Swiss victory consolidated the League of the Three Forest Cantons, which formed the core of the Old Swiss Confederacy.

Sihl

The Sihl is a Swiss river that rises near the Druesberg mountain in the canton of Schwyz, and eventually flows into the Limmat in the centre of the city of Zürich. It has a length of , including the Sihlsee reservoir, through which the river flows. Water is abstracted from the river at the Sihlsee, leading to decreased downstream water flows and a consequent reduction in water quality. The river flows through, or along the border of, the cantons of Schwyz, Zürich and Zug.

Arth

Arth is a village, a town, and a municipality in Schwyz District in the canton of Schwyz in Switzerland. The municipality consists of the villages Arth, Oberarth, and Goldau. The four settlements Rigi Kulm, Rigi First, Rigi Klösterli, and Rigi Staffel on the mountain Rigi to the west of Arth are also part of the municipality. Arth is first mentioned in 1036 as Arta. In 1353 it was mentioned as ze Arth. Arth has an area, , of . Of this area, 40.8% is used for agricultural purposes, while 46.3% is forested.

Lauerz

Lauerz is a village and municipality in the Schwyz District of the canton of Schwyz in Switzerland. It adjoins Lake Lauerz (Lauerzersee). Lauerz is first mentioned in 1306 as Lowertz. In September 1806, the village was very badly affected by the tsunami that followed the landslide at Goldau, resulting in the deaths of 115 people in Lauerz alone. The village of Lauerz is situated on the south shore of Lake Lauerz (Lauerzersee). The municipality consists of the village of Lauerz and a number of scattered farm houses between the northern slope of the Rigi mountain and the lake.
