Theatre or theater is a collaborative form of performing art that uses live performers, usually actors or actresses, to present the experience of a real or imagined event before a live audience in a specific place, often a stage. The performers may communicate this experience to the audience through combinations of gesture, speech, song, music, and dance. It is the oldest form of drama, though live theatre has now been joined by modern recorded forms. Elements of art, such as painted scenery and stagecraft such as lighting are used to enhance the physicality, presence and immediacy of the experience. Places, normally buildings, where performances regularly take place are also called "theatres" (or "theaters"), as derived from the Ancient Greek θέατρον (théatron, "a place for viewing"), itself from θεάομαι (theáomai, "to see", "to watch", "to observe"). Mise en scène: le théâtre et la ville

Depuis toujours, le théâtre est l'un des acteurs principaux de la ville. Son statut emblématique a influencé la construction de nombreux quartiers, avenues et places. Ce projet propose une nouvelle façon de bâtir un théâtre en milieu urbain. En s'implantant sur la place de la Planta au coeur de Sion, capitale valaisanne, il requalifie l'entrée de la vieille-ville. Au rez-de-chaussée, un portique dessine le front Ouest de la place historique, formant un seuil entre elle et l'avenue de la Gare. Au niveau supérieur, celui-ci devient une passerelle publique sur laquelle habitants et visiteurs peuvent contempler les deux collines représentatives de la ville. Les bâtiments publics historiques et l'arrière-plan formé par les Alpes s'ajoutent à ce décor théâtral. Office du tourisme, salle polyvalente, bar et théâtre s'accrochent à la ligne forte tracée par le portique. Le bâtiment principal, destiné à l'accueil de représentations théâtrales, est une black box en maçonnerie, soit un volume massif à l'intérieur duquel se trouve un espace modulable. Les autres parties du programme reprennent ce même langage constructif. La passerelle légère serpente entre ces différents volumes, proposant une véritable promenade panoramique aux spectateurs. Le fonctionnement de la place et du théâtre se modifie au fil des saisons et des manifestations, selon un vaste éventail d'échelles et de configurations. Le théâtre se met ainsi en scène dans la ville.

«Je peux prendre n'importe quel espace vide et l'appeler une scène. Quelqu'un traverse cet espace vide pendant que quelqu'un d'autre l'observe, et c'est suffisant pour que l'acte théâtral soit amorcé.» [Peter Brook, L'espace vide. Ecrits sur le théâtre, Editions du Seuil, Paris, 1977, p. 25] Le but du projet est d'aborder la création d'un lieu pour l'apprentissage, la pratique et la représentation des arts de la scène (musique, danse, théâtre) à l'échelle de la région de l'Est vaudois, s'insérant dans une vision politique de professionnalisation de ceux-ci. Le projet est à comprendre comme faisant partie d'un processus de formation où l'acquisition des connaissances spécifiques à un art s'enrichissent des pratiques des autres. Un lieu artistique doit porter en lui la possibilité d'interroger et percevoir autrement sa propre discipline artistique. Par un travail sur la porosité visuelle/auditive et la continuité de l'espace, le projet développe une idée de scènes multiples. Le lieu permet à chacun d'être public et acteur à la fois où le déplacement et le travail du corps deviennent le spectacle permanent tout en assurant le degré d'intimité nécessaire à chacun.

Abitare oltre la pandemia: verso un nuovo habitat domestico

The search for ways of living adapted to the changes of society is gaining in importance in the context of the current Coronavirus pandemic. The domestic confinement, in fact, is revealing as never before the inadequacy of our homes to contemporary life. The juxtaposition and, in some cases, the hybridization of domestic activities with those traditionally carried out elsewhere, puts in crisis the concepts of type, room, furnishing and dimensional standard, no longer capable to respond to the new degrees of flexibility and privacy required in our homes. The advent of the individual and mobile digital device puts in crisis the hearth of the house and, therefore, leads to the dissolution of a space of exchange and conviviality in the domestic environment. In order to react to a dramatic condition that is affecting especially the inhabitants of the metropolitan micro-apartments, we must conceive an environment in which intimate spaces for private life, flexible spaces for collective life, technological devices and symbolic objects find a new synthesis. We must recover some of the founding elements from traditional models of dwelling, such as the wall, the room, the hearth and the piece of furniture. We must transform them to generate a domestic model where they could interact actively with the body and the psyche of the inhabitants. Only through the conception of this sort of ecosystem, made up of significant spaces, vital stimuli and an alternative community, we will manage to define a domestic model that is no longer a traditional dwelling but a habitat: from existenzminimum to existenzmaximum. The new habitat will be made up of a series of components contributing to define a device that goes beyond the «Fundamental Acts» of life, to respond to people’s «deep needs». The Inhabited Wall: a barrier between the metropolis and the habitat that hosts intimate and private spaces, whose activities go beyond survival to generate «new rituals». «The Big Box»: a neutral and flexible environment at the service of the community. The Utensils: devices that, through a synthesis of high technology, action and symbol, allow multisensory collective experiences. The Domestic Theatre: the fulcrum of collective activities consisting of a conversation pit which, combined with a scenic tower, becomes a stage for the mise en scène of domestic life.
