Mithila (region)
Mithila (), also known as Tirhut, Tirabhukti and Mithilanchal is a geographical and cultural region of the Indian subcontinent bounded by the Mahananda River in the east, the Ganges in the south, the Gandaki River in the west and by the foothills of the Himalayas in the north. It comprises certain parts of Bihar and Jharkhand of India and adjoining districts of the Province No. 1, Bagmati Pradesh and Madhesh Province of Nepal. The native language in Mithila is Maithili, and its speakers are referred to as Maithils.

Janakpurdham or Janakpur (जनकपुर, d͡zʌnʌkpur) is a sub-metropolitan city in Dhanusha District, Madhesh Province, Nepal. The city is a hub for religious and cultural tourism. Janakpur is also known as the birth place of goddess Sita. A headquarter of Dhanusha district, Janakpur is also the capital for Madhesh Province. The city was founded in the early 12th century. According to tradition and an Archeological evidence found at the site, ancient civilization indicates Janakpurdham as the capital of the Videha dynasty that ruled the Mithila region in ancient times.

Muzaffarpur District is one of the thirty-eight districts of Bihar state, India. Muzaffarpur district is part of and also the headquarters of Tirhut Division Tirhut is the ancient name of all of northern Bihar. Muzaffarpur was a part of the ancient Vajjika League, one of the principal mahājanapadas of Ancient India. Muzaffarpur fostered political leaders and statesmen alike among whom were Maghfoor Ahmad Ajazi, George Fernandes, Janki Ballabh Shastri, a great Hindi writer, Parmanandan Shashtri and Devesh Chandra Thakur.
Bagmati River
The Bagmati River flows through the Kathmandu valley of Nepal, separating the cities of Kathmandu from Patan, before flowing through Madesh Province of southern Nepal and joining the Kamla River in the Indian state of Bihar. It is considered holy by both Hindus and Buddhists. A number of Hindu temples are located on its banks. The importance of the Bagmati River also lies in the fact that Hindus are cremated on the banks of this holy river, and Kirants are buried in the hills by its side.

Muzaffarpur is famous for Shahi lychees and is known as the Lychee Kingdom. Shahi litchi is set to become the fourth product from Bihar, after jardalu mango, katarni rice and Magahi paan (betel leaf) to get the Geographical Indication (GI) tag.

Darbhanga is the fifth-largest city and municipal corporation in the state of Bihar in India, and is considered an important city in North Bihar. It serves as the headquarters of the Darbhanga district and the Darbhanga division. It is held that the name Darbhanga has been derived from Dwar Banga or Dari – Banga, meaning the 'door of Bengal'. Darbhanga was the seat of the erstwhile Khandwala zamidaar dynasty under the Mughals and British India. It is the capital of the proposed Indian state, Mithila.

The district has an area of and has a population of 4,487,379 (as of 2011). Madhubani is the largest fish producing district of Bihar in 2022. Madhubani became a district in 1972 when it was split from Darbhanga district. It is believed that Baliraajgadh, an archaeological site which lies in modern-day Madhubani district was the capital of the ancient Mithila Kingdom.
Maithili language
Maithili (ˈmaɪtᵻli) is an Indo-Aryan language spoken in parts of India and Nepal. It is native to the Mithila region, which encompasses parts of the Indian states of Bihar and Jharkhand as well as Nepal's eastern Terai. It is one of the 22 officially recognised languages of India and the second most spoken language in Nepal.It was once described by linguist Sir George Abraham Grierson as the "sweetest language". The language is predominantly written in Devanagari, but there are two other historically important scripts: Tirhuta, which has retained some use until the present, and Kaithi.
Bihar
Bihar (bᵻˈhɑːr; bɪˈɦaːr) is a state in eastern India. It is the third largest state by population, the 12th largest by area, and the 14th largest by GDP in 2021. Bihar borders Uttar Pradesh to its west, Nepal to the north, the northern part of West Bengal to the east, and with Jharkhand to the south. The Bihar plain is split by the river Ganges, which flows from west to east. On 15 November 2000, southern Bihar was ceded to form the new state of Jharkhand. Only 20% of the population of Bihar lives in urban areas as of 2021.
