Atlassian Corporation (ətˈlæsiən) is an Australian software company that develops products for software developers, project managers and other software development teams. The company is domiciled in Delaware, with global headquarters in Sydney, Australia, and US headquarters in San Francisco.
In the fourth fiscal quarter of 2022, Atlassian reported serving 242,623 customers in over 190 countries, with 10 million monthly active users. As of June 2022, the company had 8,813 employees across 13 countries.
Mike Cannon-Brookes and Scott Farquhar founded Atlassian in 2002. The pair met while studying at the University of New South Wales in Sydney. They bootstrapped the company for several years, financing the startup with a 10,000creditcarddebt.ThenameisanadhocderivationfromthetitanAtlasinGreekmythologywhohadbeenpunishedtoholduptheHeavensaftertheGreekgodshadoverthrowntheTitans.(TheusualformofthewordisAtlantean.)Thederivationwasreflectedinthecompany′slogousedfrom2011throughtothe2017re−brandingthroughablueX−shapedfigureholdingupwhatisshowntobethebottomofthesky.Atlassianreleaseditsflagshipproduct,Jira–aprojectandissuetracker,in2002.In2004,itreleasedConfluence,ateamcollaborationplatformthatletsusersworktogetheronprojects,co−createcontent,andsharedocumentsandothermediaassets.InJuly2010,Atlassianraised60 million in venture capital from Accel Partners. In June 2011, Atlassian announced revenue of 102million,up35InNovember2015,Atlassianannouncedsalesof320 million, and Shona Brown was added to its board. On 10 December 2015, Atlassian made its initial public offering (IPO) on the NASDAQ stock exchange, under the symbol TEAM, putting the market capitalization of Atlassian at $4.37 billion.
