BIOENG-450: In silico neuroscience"In silico Neuroscience" introduces students to a synthesis of modern neuroscience and state-of-the-art data management, modelling and computing technologies.
BIO-311: NeuroscienceThe course starts with fundamentals of electrical - and chemical signaling in neurons. Students then learn how neurons in the brain receive and process sensory information, and how other neurons control the behavior of an animal. Furthermore, memory, learning, and brain disorders will be introduced.
BIO-480: Neuroscience: from molecular mechanisms to diseaseThe goal of the course is to guide students through the essential aspects of molecular neuroscience and neurodegenerative diseases. The student will gain the ability to dissect the molecular basis of disease in the nervous system in order to begin to understand and identify therapeutic strategies.
BIO-482: Neuroscience: cellular and circuit mechanismsThis course focuses on the cellular mechanisms of mammalian brain function. We will describe how neurons communicate through synaptic transmission in order to process sensory information ultimately leading to motor behavior.
BIO-478: Pharmacology and pharmacokineticsThis course introduces the student to the fudamentals of pharmacology, pharmacokinetics and drug-receptor interactions. It discusses also pharmacogenetics and chronopharmacology, to exemplify the challenges of personalized medicine.
CH-411: Cellular signallingPresentation of selected signalling pathways with emphasis on both the mechanism of action of the molecules involved, molecular interactions and the role of their spatio-temporal organization within the cell, considering cellular dimensions and conditions.
BIOENG-455: Computational cell biologyComputer modelling is increasingly used to study dynamic phenomena in cell biology. This course shows how to identify common mathematical features in cell biological mechanisms, and become proficient in selecting numerical algorithms to model them and predict their behaviour.
BIO-692: Symmetry and Conservation in the CellThis course instructs students in the use of advanced computational models and simulations in cell biology. The importance of dimensionality, symmetry and conservation in models of self-assembly, membranes, and polymer/filament scaling laws reveals how cells exploit these principles in life.
BIO-447: Stem cells and organoidsThis course introduces the fundamentals of stem cell biology, with a particular focus on the role of stem cells during development, tissue homeostasis/regeneration and disease, and the generation of organoids from stem cells
