DJ Kool HercClive Campbell (born April 16, 1955), better known by his stage name DJ Kool Herc, is a Jamaican American DJ who is credited for the creation of hip hop music in the Bronx, New York City, in the 1970s. Although hip hop historian Jeff Chang notes DJ Kool Herc, Grandmaster Flash and Bambaataa as the “Holy Trinity of Hip Hop”, and many African American artists before and of that time influenced the creation of Hip Hop music within their culture,DJ Kool Herc is popularly referred to as the “Founder of Hip-Hop" and "Father of Hip-Hop".

It originally rose in what is now the Kensico Reservoir, in Westchester County north of New York City, on a hill about 650 feet above sea level in what is now New Castle, New York. The river originated in an area the Weckquasgeek called Quaropes, which means White Marshes.
