Würzburg
Würzburg (ˈvʏʁtsbʊʁk; Main-Franconian: Wörtzburch) is a city in the region of Franconia located in the northern part of the German state of Bavaria. Würzburg is the administrative seat of the Regierungsbezirk Lower Franconia. It spans the banks of the Main River. Würzburg is situated approximately east-southeast of Frankfurt am Main and approximately west-northwest of Nuremberg (Nürnberg). The population (as of 2019) is approximately 130,000 residents. The administration of the Landkreis Würzburg (district of Würzburg) is also located in the town.

With an area of 21,114.73 square kilometers and a population of over six million, it ranks seventh and fifth, respectively, among the sixteen German states. Frankfurt Rhine-Main, Germany's second-largest metropolitan area (after Rhine-Ruhr), is mainly located in Hesse.
Main (river)
The Main (ˈmaɪn) is the longest tributary of the Rhine. It rises as the White Main in the Fichtel Mountains of northeastern Bavaria and flows west through central Germany for to meet the Rhine below Rüsselsheim, Hesse. The cities of Mainz and Wiesbaden are close to the confluence. The largest cities on the Main are Frankfurt am Main, Offenbach am Main and Würzburg. It is the longest river lying entirely in Germany (if the Weser-Werra are considered separate).

Frankfurt, officially Frankfurt am Main (ˈfʁaŋkfʊʁt ʔam ˈmaɪn; Hessian: Frangford am Maa, ˈfʁɑŋfɔɐ̯t am ˈmãː; "Frank ford on the Main"), is the most populous city in the German state of Hesse. Its 791,000 inhabitants as of 2022 make it the fifth-most populous city in Germany, and it is the only city in the country rated as an "alpha world city" according to GaWC. Located in the foreland of the Taunus on its namesake Main River, it forms a continuous conurbation with the neighboring city of Offenbach am Main and its urban area has a population of over 2.
