RethymnoRethymno (Ρέθυμνο, ˈreθimno, also Rethimno, Rethymnon, Réthymnon, and Rhíthymnos) is a city in Greece on the island of Crete. It is the capital of Rethymno regional unit, and has a population of more than 30,000 inhabitants (near 40,000 for the municipal unit). Rethymno was originally built during the Minoan civilization (ancient Rhithymna and Arsinoe). The city was prominent enough to mint its own coins and maintain urban growth. One of these coins is today depicted as the crest of the town: two dolphins in a circle.
EvzonesThe Evzones or Evzonoi (Εύζωνες, Εύζωνοι, ˈevzones, ˈevzoni) were several historical elite light infantry and mountain units of the Greek Army. Today, they are the members of the Presidential Guard (Προεδρική Φρουρά ), a ceremonial unit that guards the Greek Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (Μνημείο του Άγνωστου Στρατιώτη ) and the Presidential Mansion in Athens. An Evzone (Εύζωνας) is also known, colloquially, as a Tsoliás (Τσολιάς; pl. Τσολιάδες, Tsoliádes).
4th of August RegimeThe 4th of August Regime (Kathestós tis tetártis Avgoústou), commonly also known as the Metaxas regime (Καθεστώς Μεταξά, Kathestós Metaxá), was an authoritarian regime under the leadership of General Ioannis Metaxas that ruled the Kingdom of Greece from 1936 to 1941. On 4 August 1936, Metaxas, with the support of King George II, suspended the Greek parliament and went on to preside over a conservative, staunchly anti-communist government.
