LeukLeuk (Loèche-Ville) is a municipality in the district of Leuk in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. On 1 January 2013, the former municipality of Erschmatt merged into the municipality of Leuk. Since it controls access to the Gemmi Pass, it had some importance from the time of Roman Raetia. The Leukerbad thermal baths are just north of Leuk, towards the pass. It is the capital of the Leuk district of the Valais. Leuk is home to one of the known installations of Onyx, the Swiss interception system for signals intelligence gathering.
TurtmannTurtmann (French: Tourtemagne) is a former municipality in the district of Leuk in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. The municipalities of Turtmann and Unterems merged on 1 January 2013 into the new municipality of Turtmann-Unterems. Turtmann is first mentioned in 1050 as Curtmannonis. In 1210 it was mentioned as Torthemanei and Tortemagny. Until 2003 Turtmann had a military airfield which was used by Swiss Air Force Northrop F-5 of fighter squadron 13. The airfield is now just for the use of civil aircraft.
GampelGampel is a former municipality in the district of Leuk in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. Gampel should not be confused with the municipality Gampelen in the canton of Bern. It was an independent municipality until January 1, 2009, when it merged with Bratsch to form Gampel-Bratsch. Gampel is first mentioned in 1238 as Champilz. The blazon of the village coat of arms is Azure in dexter a Mullet of Six Or in sinister an Increscent inverted Argent in base Coupeaux of the second. Gampel has a population () of 1,385.
LeukerbadLeukerbad (Loèche-les-Bains, Walliser German: Leiggerbad, although locally known as Baadu) is a municipality in the district of Leuk in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. The story of Leukerbad dates back to the 4th century B.C. Graves and ceramics attest the presence of habitation in Leukerbad. From the 5th century, the pass of the Gemmi, a unique link between the cantons of Valais and Bern, has been in use. In 1229, Leukerbad is mentioned for the first time and called "Boez". French was the locally spoken language at that time.
