The island is shared between Moskenes Municipality and Flakstad Municipality. The tidal whirlpool system known as Moskstraumen, one of the strongest in the world, is located between Moskenesôya's Lofoten Point and the island of Mosken. The island consists of an agglomeration of glaciated hills with the highest peak being the Hermannsdalstinden mountain.

SkrovaSkrova is a small island group and village area in Vågan Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The fishing village of Skrova lies on the northern part of the island group. It exists mostly on the island of Heimskrova, but also includes parts of five other islands, including the northwestern edge of the large islands of Skrova. The village is connected to the town of Svolvær (also in Vågan Municipality) and the village of Skutvika (in Hamarøy Municipality on the mainland) by regularly scheduled ferry routes.

LødingenLødingen (Lodegak) is a municipality in Nordland county in Norway. Lødingen is located on the southeastern corner of the island of Hinnøya, and is part of the traditional district of Ofoten. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Lødingen. The other main part of the municipality is Vestbygda. Lødingen has the nickname "Biketown" because it hosts several annual bicycle races, including "Lofoten Insomnia" and Vestbygd-rittet. The municipality is by area the 202nd largest out of the 356 municipalities in Norway.
HinnøyaHinnøya is the fourth-largest island in Norway, and the largest outside the Svalbard archipelago. The lies just off the western coast of Northern Norway. The island sits on the border of Nordland and Troms og Finnmark counties. The western part of the island is in the district of Vesterålen, the southwestern part is in the Lofoten district, the southeastern part is in the Ofoten district, and the northeastern part is in Troms. Hinnøya had a population of 32,688. The only town on the island is the town of Harstad.
VestvågøyaVestvågøya or Vest-Vågøy is an island in the Lofoten archipelago in Nordland county, Norway. The island is located within Vestvågøy Municipality. The island lies between the islands of Austvågøya and Gimsøya to the northeast and Flakstadøya to the southwest. There are also several small islands and skerries surrounding the island. Vestvågøya makes up over 97% of the municipal area and about 99% of the inhabitants of the municipality live on the island.

Gimsøy (municipality)Gimsøy is a former municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1856 until its dissolution in 1964. It was located in the northwestern part of what is now Vågan Municipality. The municipality consisted mainly of the island of Gimsøya as well as the western part of the larger neighboring island of Austvågøya. The municipalities also included 407 other small islands as well as hundreds of little islets and skerries, all of which are located in the Lofoten archipelago.
