U. Röthlisberger was born in Solothurn (Switzerland). In 1988 she made her diploma in Physical Chemistry in the group of Prof. Ernst Schumacher at the University of Berne (Switzerland). Her Ph.D. thesis was done in collaboration with Dr. Wanda Andreoni at the IBM Zurich Research Laboratory in Rüschlikon. After finishing her Ph.D in 1991 she spent some time as a postdoctoral research assistant at the IBM Research Lab. From 1992-1995 she was a postdoctoral research assistant in the group of Prof. Michael L. Klein at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia (USA). In 1994 she was awarded an advanced researcher fellowship (Profil 2) from the Swiss National Science Foundation. Before starting her Profile 2-fellowship she spent another year as postdoctoral research assistant in the group of Prof. Michele Parrinello at the Max-Planck-Institute for Solid State Physics in Stuttgart, Germany. In 1996 she moved as Profile 2-fellow to the ETH in Zurich, hosted by the group of Prof. Wilfred F. van Gunsteren. In 1997 she became Assistant Professor of Computer-Aided Inorganic Chemistry at the ETH Zurich.

University of Southampton. 1985 - 1992 Lecturer in Physical Chemistry, University of Edinburgh. 1992 - Professor of Physical Chemistry, Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. 2011 - 2014 Dean of Bachelor and Master studies Hubert Girault is the author of 2 textbooks, the co-author of about 600 scientific publications with more than 20'000 citations and the co-inventor of more than 15 patents. During his academic career, he has supervised 70 PhD students. 30 alumni of his laboratory are now Professors. Honours: Faraday medal 2006, Royal Society of Chemistry, Fellow of the International Society of Electrochemistry 2007, Reilley Award 2015. Dr. Enrico Colla received his diploma in physics at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich (ETHZ) in 1982. From 1982 to 1987 he worked on phase transitions and multi critical points in incommensurate systems at the Institute of Solid State Physics, ETH Zurich and obtained the PhD title - Dr. sc. nat. ETHZ - and awarded with the Silver medal of ETHZ (for his thesis work). Since 1990 he is employed at the Ceramics Laboratory, Materials Department, at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology-EPFL. His work on low-loss dielectric ceramics clarified the influence of structural phase transitions in non-ferroelectric complex perovskites for microwave applications on the temperature dependence of the relative permittivity. Between 1994 and 2003 he contributed to the understanding of switching mechanism and fatigue effects in ferroelectric thin films with a number of works based on Piezoelectric Atomic Force Microscopy (PFM) combined with innovative experimental approaches. The most recent areas of interest concern the effect of high electric field application on ferroelectric thin films with PFM and the development of high performance piezoelectric diskbender actuators.
