Kakhovka ReservoirThe Kakhovka Reservoir (Kakhovs'ke vodoskhovyshche) was a water reservoir on the Dnieper River in Ukraine. It was created in 1956 by construction of the Kakhovka Dam at Nova Kakhovka. It was one of several reservoirs in the Dnieper reservoir cascade. The dam was breached on 6 June 2023, which international consensus attributes to Russian forces mining and blowing the base of the dam, while Russia alternatively described it as a "terrorist" act, in the case of the Russian-installed mayor of Nova Kakhovka, or as caused by a lack of maintenance, in the case of the Russian government.
Russian irredentismRussian irredentism (Русский ирредентизм), sometimes expressed by the term Greater Russia (Великая Россия), refers to territorial claims made on behalf of the Russian Federation to parts of the former Russian Empire and/or the former Soviet Union. It seeks to politically incorporate Russians who are living in territories that fall outside of Russia's modern borders. Since it began in 2014, the Russo-Ukrainian War has been described as a culmination of Russia's irredentist policies towards Ukraine.

Its main industry is electricity generation, at a coal-fired power station and a large nuclear power station. It has an estimated population of About 11,000 residents work at the nuclear power station. Since early 2022, it has been under Russian occupation.

SoledarSoledar (Соледар, soɫeˈdɑr; Соледар, səljɪˈdar; gift of salt), formerly known as Karlo-Libknekhtovsk from 1965 to 1991, is a settlement in Bakhmut Raion, Donetsk Oblast, eastern Ukraine. Situated in the Donbas region, Soledar lies from the city of Bakhmut, and its population was 10,490 in January 2022. It is a highly important salt-mining location, with the Soledar Salt Mine providing 95% of Ukraine's salt in 2021. Soledar has been almost entirely destroyed due to intense fighting during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, after which it came under Russian control on 11 January 2023.
2022 annexation referendums in Russian-occupied UkraineIn late September 2022, in the context of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Russian-installed officials in Ukraine staged so-called referendums on the annexation of occupied territories of Ukraine by Russia. They were widely described as sham referendums by commentators and denounced by various countries. Currently, the validity of the results of the referendums has only been accepted by North Korea, and no other sovereign state.
