Jamal Ahmad Khashoggi (kəˈʃoʊɡdʒi,_kəˈʃɒɡdʒi; Jamāl ʾAḥmad Ḵāšuqjī, dʒaˈmaːl xaːˈʃʊɡ.(d)ʒi; 13 October 1958 – 2 October 2018) was a Saudi journalist, dissident, author, columnist for Middle East Eye and The Washington Post, and a general manager and editor-in-chief of Al-Arab News Channel who was assassinated at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on 2 October 2018 by agents of the Saudi government at the behest of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. He also served as editor for the Saudi Arabian newspaper Al Watan, turning it into a platform for Saudi progressives.

Created in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg with fellow Harvard College students and roommates Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes, its name derives from the face book directories often given to American university students. Membership was initially limited to only Harvard students, gradually expanding to other North American universities and, since 2006, anyone over 13 years old.

Gizmodo (ɡɪzˈmoʊdoʊ ) is a design, technology, science and science fiction website. It was originally launched as part of the Gawker Media network run by Nick Denton, and runs on the Kinja platform. Gizmodo also includes the subsite io9, which focuses on science fiction and futurism. Since April 2019, Gizmodo is part of G/O Media, owned by private equity firm Great Hill Partners. The blog, launched in 2002, was originally edited by Peter Rojas, who was later recruited by Weblogs, Inc.
