The course introduces the Digital Humanities circle of processing and interpretation, from data acquisition to new understandings.
CS-401: Applied data analysisThis course teaches the basic techniques, methodologies, and practical skills required to draw meaningful insights from a variety of data, with the help of the most acclaimed software tools in the data science world (pandas, scikit-learn, Spark, etc.)
MGT-555: Innovation & entrepreneurship in engineeringThis course is a joint initiative between the School of Engineering and the College of Management to encourage and promote entrepreneurship and management skills, engineering design, hands-on experience, teamwork, and awareness of social and ethical implications in engineering and management.
MGT-201: Introduction to entrepreneurshipThis course provides an introduction to the topic of entrepreneurship, the process of new firm creation and the commercialization of technologies. The course integrates theories of entrepreneurship with a practical, process-based project in which students develop a business concept in teams.
COM-402: Information security and privacyThis course provides an overview of information security and privacy topics. It introduces students to the knowledge and tools they will need to deal with the security/privacy challenges they are likely to encounter in today's Big Data world. The tools are illustrated with relevant applications.
CS-411: Digital educationThis course addresses the relationship between specific technological features and the learners' cognitive processes. It also covers the methods and results of empirical studies on this topic: do student actually learn due to technologies?
CS-523: Advanced topics on privacy enhancing technologiesThis advanced course will provide students with the knowledge to tackle the design of privacy-preserving ICT systems. Students will learn about existing technologies to prect privacy, and how to evaluate the protection they provide.
CS-487: Industrial automationThis course consists of two parts:
- architecture of automation systems, hands-on lab
- handling of faults and failures in real-time systems, including fault-tolerant computing
CS-503: Visual intelligence : machines and mindsThe course will discuss classic material as well as recent advances in computer vision and machine learning relevant to processing visual data with a primary focus on embodied intelligence and vision for active agents.
CS-422: Database systemsThis course is intended for students who want to understand modern large-scale data analysis systems and database systems. It covers a wide range of topics and technologies, and will prepare students to be able to build such systems as well as read and understand recent research publications.
