CS-233(a): Introduction to machine learning (BA3)
Machine learning and data analysis are becoming increasingly central in many sciences and applications. In this course, fundamental principles and methods of machine learning will be introduced, analyzed and practically implemented.
MICRO-455: Applied machine learning
Real-world engineering applications must cope with a large dataset of dynamic variables, which cannot be well approximated by classical or deterministic models. This course gives an overview of methods from Machine Learning for the analysis of non-linear, highly noisy and multi dimensional data
CS-401: Applied data analysis
This course teaches the basic techniques, methodologies, and practical skills required to draw meaningful insights from a variety of data, with the help of the most acclaimed software tools in the data science world (pandas, scikit-learn, Spark, etc.)
DH-406: Machine learning for DH
This course aims to introduce the basic principles of machine learning in the context of the digital humanities. We will cover both supervised and unsupervised learning techniques, and study and implement methods to analyze diverse data types, such as images, music and social network data.
EE-311: Fundamentals of machine learning
Ce cours présente une vue générale des techniques d'apprentissage automatique, passant en revue les algorithmes, le formalisme théorique et les protocoles expérimentaux.
FIN-407: Financial econometrics
This course aims to give an introduction to the application of machine learning to finance. These techniques gained popularity due to the limitations of traditional financial econometrics methods tackling big data. We will review and compare traditional methods and machine learning algorithms.
CS-411: Digital education
This course addresses the relationship between specific technological features and the learners' cognitive processes. It also covers the methods and results of empirical studies on this topic: do student actually learn due to technologies?
CS-233(b): Introduction to machine learning (BA4)
Machine learning and data analysis are becoming increasingly central in many sciences and applications. In this course, fundamental principles and methods of machine learning will be introduced, analyzed and practically implemented.
EE-556: Mathematics of data: from theory to computation
This course provides an overview of key advances in continuous optimization and statistical analysis for machine learning. We review recent learning formulations and models as well as their guarantees, describe scalable solution techniques and algorithms, and illustrate the trade-offs involved.
ENV-540: Image processing for Earth observation
This course covers optical remote sensing from satellites and airborne platforms. The different systems are presented. The students will acquire skills in image processing and machine/deep learning to extract end-products, such as land cover or risk maps, from the images.
