It discusses the rise of private transport companies in Sub-Saharan Africa, their challenges in meeting demand, and the informal and artisanal transport sectors. The lecture also delves into the perspectives of anthropologists, urban planners, and economists on informal transport, providing definitions and insights into its functioning. Additionally, it examines the transition from informal to artisanal transport, emphasizing the importance of collective rules. The presentation concludes by analyzing the key factors for success in urban transport, illustrated with a case study of collective transport networks in Dakar in the late 1990s.
