This lecture covers the direct measurement of Surface Plasmon Polaritons (SPP) using heterodyne photon scanning tunneling microscopy (PSTM). The slides discuss the larger momentum and smaller effective wavelength of SPP compared to free space waves, the experimental setup involving SNOM probes and interferometers, the high sensitivity of the technique, and the measurement of amplitude and phase of the SPP field. The lecture also explores SPP reflection and refraction, topography plots, and the characteristics of surface waves. The instructor, Olivier J.F. Martin, presents various experimental results and techniques related to SPP measurements.
