This lecture covers the environmental impact of acid mine drainage resulting from the exposure of pyrite during mining activities, leading to the formation of acidic runoff containing heavy metals. The effects include toxicity to wildlife and water contamination. Various treatment methods such as physical capping, biological sulfate reduction, and chemical neutralization with lime are discussed to mitigate these impacts.
