This lecture covers the quantitative expression of the Extended X-ray Absorption Fine Structure (EXAFS) signal, based on a shell model with concentric shells centered on the absorbing atom. It explains how the signal is summed over all shells to obtain interatomic distances, and discusses variants of EXAFS such as Energy-dispersive X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (EDXAS) and Quick-EXAFS (QEXAFS). The lecture also touches on X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and Ultraviolet Photoelectron Spectroscopy (UPS) techniques. Practical applications and advantages of these techniques are highlighted, including their spatial and temporal resolutions, sensitivity to drifts, and suitability for specific types of samples.
