This lecture covers the influence of polymer structure on crystallinity, dimensions of polymer chains, polymer solutions, polymer melts, isomerism, tacticity, thermoplasts, thermosets, characterization of polymers, and applications. It explains the processing steps of thermoplasts and thermosets, highlighting their differences in crosslinking. The lecture also discusses elastomers formed by crosslinking linear chains, vulcanization, and the elastic properties of polymers. Additionally, it explores the rheological characterization of polymers, including shear and storage moduli, viscous and viscoelastic materials, and oscillatory rheology. Examples and applications of these concepts are provided throughout the lecture.
