This lecture covers the mechanisms of Ru-catalyzed water oxidation, the comparison between homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts, and the performance of different metal oxides as catalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction. It discusses the challenges in homogeneous catalysis, the importance of mechanism-based catalyst design, and the best catalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction. The lecture also presents a benchmarking methodology for evaluating electrocatalysts and recent advancements in transition metal oxides as Earth-abundant OER catalysts.
