This lecture covers second-order linear ordinary differential equations (ODEs) on an open interval in R^2, defining local and global solutions, equivalent systems, Cauchy problems, uniqueness of solutions, and linear independence of solutions. It also discusses the general solution of the homogeneous equation, the dimension of the solution space, linearly independent solutions, and the variation of constants method.
