This lecture discusses the proposed mechanism of CO2 reduction by FeNi-CODH, focusing on electrocatalytic 2-electron CO2 reduction and the origin of different products. It explores the selective 2-electron CO2 reduction to CO, highlighting the role of hydrogen bonding in stabilizing the C-bound Ni-CO2 intermediate. The lecture also covers the electrochemical reduction of CO2 on metal electrodes, showcasing the different products formed and the conditions for the reduction. Additionally, it delves into the mechanism of heterogeneous CO2 reduction, emphasizing the formation of CO and formate. The periodic table of CO2 electroreduction and recent research on atomically dispersed Fe3+ sites for efficient CO2 electroreduction are also discussed.
