Pile Defects and Controls

This lecture covers potential pathologies of pile foundations, including failures related to inadequate site investigation, overestimation of mechanical characteristics, and anomalies during construction. It also discusses defects in pile-body, such as bending, shearing, and axial misalignment, as well as issues arising from poor implementation in cast-in-place piles. Control methods during and after construction are presented, including verticality checks, resistance recording during driving, and post-construction inspections like coring, visual examination, and dynamic loading tests.
