This lecture follows the journey of the instructor and his partner in rediscovering sustainable construction techniques using excavated materials. Starting with experimental work at EPFL, they won a competition in 2011, leading to the production of their first blocks. Over the years, they collaborated with architects, won awards, and scaled up their production. They faced challenges in structural applications and reducing costs, eventually partnering with an industrial company to increase efficiency. Through life cycle analysis, they proved the environmental benefits of their earth-based construction materials. The lecture highlights the importance of collaboration, innovation, and perseverance in introducing sustainable practices in the construction industry.
