Lecture

Synchronous Machines: Operation and Topogram

Description

This lecture covers the synchronization of synchronous machines with the power grid, using examples from hydroelectric power plants. It explains the mechanical position of the rotor, the excitation current needed for nominal voltage, and the power diagram analysis. The topogram, or power diagram, is discussed for both smooth and salient pole machines, including their thermal limits and stability conditions.
