This lecture discusses the design and synthesis of shape-persistent macrocycles for supramolecular self-assembly systems. It covers the development of water-soluble macrocycles, their solubility improvement, self-aggregation examination, host-guest interactions, and the geometry of supramolecular structures. The lecture also explores the use of macrocycles in artificial transmembrane transporters and as hosts in host-guest systems. Various techniques such as CD, fluorescence, NMR, and MS are employed for characterization. The conclusion highlights the modification of known macrocycles for water solubility, supramolecular aggregation formation, and their use in host-guest systems, characterized through computational studies and various spectroscopic techniques.
